Mental Health Corner: Tip of the Month
Testing season is here - this can mean on a lot of anxiety for students who are sitting for Keystone Exams or the SAT/ACT. Test anxiety is very common, but allowing yourself to get anxious will not help you score your highest. In fact, anxiety can actually decrease your score because your brain will be working hard to calm you down instead of trying to remember what it was that you learned. Read below for 5 tips to help ease your your anxiety on test day:
1. Breathe Deep: By breathing correctly, you can fuel your brain to perform better.
2. Before the Test: Avoid speaking with other nervous students. It's better to stay confident and focused on doing well on the exam.
3. Focus on Yourself: Don’t look around at how other students are doing.
4. Take Brief Breaks: Put your pencil down, take 2-3 deep breaths, sit up straight, and remind yourself that you can do this!
5. The Mind & Body are Connected: You can create changes in your heart rate, skin temperature, and brainwave patterns by the thoughts you evoke, so imagine a positive outcome!
Be sure to visit the HS Counseling Website for many support resources related to Mental Health.
